COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Honours) Biology program provides a thorough exploration of life sciences, combining theoretical knowledge with practical and research-based experience. In the first year, students build foundational understanding through modules in evolution, environmental biology, and core life sciences while developing professional skills necessary for scientific practice. The second year deepens this knowledge with applied ecology, advanced evolution, animal behavior, and molecular and cellular biochemistry, alongside further professional development to enhance research and analytical skills. Practical work and coursework ensure that students gain hands-on experience in laboratory and field settings, developing competencies in data collection, analysis, and scientific communication. The third year includes a sandwich placement, giving students real-world experience in scientific environments and opportunities to apply their learning in professional contexts. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics, including plant and environmental biotechnology, advanced genetics, neurobiology, pharmacology, and applications of data science, alongside an independent research project that develops critical thinking, problem-solving, and project management skills. Elective modules allow students to tailor their studies to their interests, such as applied biochemistry or human nutrition and health. Overall, the program equips students with the scientific knowledge, practical skills, and professional experience needed for careers in research, conservation, biotechnology, environmental management, or further postgraduate study.
