COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Honours) Biochemistry program is a comprehensive, four-year course that provides students with a deep understanding of the molecular and chemical foundations of life, integrating biology and chemistry to address real-world challenges. In the first year, students build essential knowledge through modules such as Biochemistry and Genetics, Fundamentals of Life Sciences, Principles of Chemical Analysis, and professional skills development, combining coursework and examinations to establish a strong scientific foundation. The second year focuses on Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry and Applications of Analytical Science, complemented by elective options including Immunology and Microbiology or Organic and Biosynthetic Chemistry, while continuing to develop professional competencies. The third year offers a sandwich placement, providing valuable practical experience in research, industry, or healthcare settings and enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge in professional contexts. In the final year, students deepen their expertise through advanced modules in Analytical Science, Applied Biochemistry, and professional skills, alongside a substantial research project that integrates practical and analytical work. Elective options allow further specialisation in areas such as Advanced Genetics, Therapeutics and Personalised Medicine, Medicinal Chemistry, Neurobiology, Pharmacology, and Data Science. Throughout the program, students gain critical laboratory skills, research experience, data analysis abilities, and professional development, preparing them for careers in biomedical research, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or further postgraduate study.
