COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Honours) Paramedic Science program is a three-year course designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and professional experience required to become competent and adaptable paramedics, capable of providing high-quality care in diverse and unpredictable pre-hospital environments. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge and practical skills through modules such as Collaboration for Individual and Community Wellbeing, Foundations of Paramedic Practice 1A and 1B, Personal and Professional Development, and the first clinical placement. This year focuses on understanding basic paramedic practice, patient assessment, and professional growth. The second year builds on this foundation with modules including Assessing and Addressing Complexity in Practice, Developing Paramedic Practice 2A and 2B, Evidence and Enquiry for Practice, and the second clinical placement. Students gain experience in managing complex patient needs, applying evidence-based approaches, and refining clinical reasoning and decision-making skills. In the third year, the program emphasizes leadership, advanced clinical skills, and preparation for professional registration, with modules such as Complexity and Leadership in Professional Practice, Independent Paramedic Practice, Specialist Populations in Paramedic Practice, The Advancing Professional, and the final clinical placement. Graduates are fully prepared to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centered pre-hospital care, respond to emergencies with confidence and compassion, and contribute meaningfully to multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
