COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Honours) Occupational Therapy program is a three-year course designed to prepare students for professional registration and practice as occupational therapists, enabling them to support individuals facing trauma, disability, and illness in achieving independence and improving quality of life. In the first year, students establish a foundation through modules such as Collaboration for Individual and Community Wellbeing, Foundations of Occupational Therapy Practice, Introduction to Occupational Therapy Practice, and Personal and Professional Development, alongside their first practice-based learning experience. This year focuses on developing essential knowledge, practical skills, and professional behaviors required for effective occupational therapy practice. In the second year, the curriculum advances to managing complex cases through modules including Assessing and Addressing Complexity in Practice, Clinical Reasoning in Occupational Therapy Practice, Evidence and Enquiry for Practice, and Expanding Occupational Therapy Practice, supported by further practice-based learning experiences. Students learn to apply evidence-based approaches, enhance clinical reasoning, and respond to diverse client needs. The third year emphasizes leadership, professional consolidation, and preparation for practice, with modules such as Complexity and Leadership in Professional Practice, Leading Occupational Therapy Practice, The Advancing Professional, and Transition to Occupational Therapy Practice, alongside the final placement. Graduates are equipped with the knowledge, practical experience, and professional skills to provide high-quality, client-centered care, work effectively within multidisciplinary teams, and make a meaningful impact in health, social care, and community settings.
