COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Honours) Nursing (Learning Disability) and Social Work program is a three-year course designed to prepare students for dual professional registration, combining learning disability nursing and social work. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Collaboration for Individual and Community Wellbeing, Essentials of Nursing and Social Work Practice, Personal and Professional Development, and Sciences and Theory for Nursing and Social Work Practice, alongside the first practice placement. This year focuses on developing essential skills, understanding theoretical frameworks, and fostering professional growth. The second year emphasizes applying knowledge and skills in more complex situations, with modules including Applying Sciences and Theory Across the Life Course, Assessing and Addressing Complexity in Practice, Developing Nursing and Social Work Professional Practice, and Evidence and Enquiry for Practice, alongside the second placement. Students enhance their ability to manage multifaceted care needs, critically evaluate evidence, and integrate nursing and social work perspectives. In the third year, the program focuses on leadership, professional consolidation, and preparation for dual registration, with modules such as Becoming a Learning Disability Nurse and Social Worker, Complexity and Leadership in Professional Practice, Consolidating the Sciences and Theory for Critical Nursing and Social Work Practice, and The Advancing Professional, alongside the final placement. Graduates are equipped to provide high-quality, person-centered care and support, advocate for individuals with learning disabilities, and make a meaningful impact in health and social care settings.
