COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Honours) Nursing (Child) program is a three-year course designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and professional experience required to become competent and compassionate children’s nurses. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Collaboration for Individual and Community Wellbeing, Fundamentals of Nursing Practice, Personal and Professional Development, and Sciences for Nursing Practice, alongside their first placement. This year focuses on understanding child health, developing practical nursing skills, and fostering professional and personal growth. In the second year, the program advances students’ knowledge and clinical abilities through Applied Sciences for Nursing Practice, Assessing and Addressing Complexity in Practice, Developing Nursing Practice, and Evidence and Enquiry for Practice, supported by the second placement. Students learn to respond to complex care needs, apply evidence-based approaches, and enhance critical thinking and reflective practice. The third year emphasizes leadership, consolidation of knowledge, and preparation for professional registration, with modules including Complexity and Leadership in Professional Practice, Consolidating Sciences for Nursing Practice, The Advancing Professional, and Transition to Registration in Children’s Nursing Practice, alongside the final placement. This comprehensive approach ensures that graduates are fully prepared to provide high-quality, child-centered care, lead in healthcare settings, and make meaningful contributions to the health and wellbeing of children and their families.
