COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Honours) Software Engineering program is designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of software development, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience. In the first year, students focus on foundational skills through modules in Programming, Databases and System Modelling, Web Development, and Software Projects, developing core competencies in coding, system design, and collaborative software creation. In the second year, learning becomes more applied with modules such as Applied Software Engineering, Professional Software Projects, and Systems Programming, allowing students to work on complex, real-world software solutions. Elective options, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Game Development, Handling Data in the Cloud, and Mobile Applications Development, provide opportunities to explore emerging technologies and broaden technical expertise. The third year incorporates a sandwich placement, giving students valuable industry experience and insight into professional practices, enhancing employability and understanding of workplace dynamics. The final year consolidates learning with advanced modules in Software Architecture and Design, Management of IT Projects, and a Development Project that emphasizes both practical and coursework assessment. Additional electives such as Contemporary Software Engineering, Machine Learning Algorithms and Heuristics, Robotics, and Secure Software Engineering enable specialization in cutting-edge areas.
