COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Honours) Automotive Engineering degree provides a comprehensive education in the principles, technologies, and practices required to become a skilled automotive engineer. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through modules such as Automotive Engineering Fundamentals, Materials, Manufacturing and Design for Transportation, Maths and Engineering Science for Transportation, and Sustainable Engineering and Interdisciplinary Practice, combining core engineering concepts with an understanding of sustainable design and materials. The second year builds on this knowledge with Applied Automotive Engineering, Numerical Methods and Applications, Systems Modelling and Simulation, and Vehicle Technology, Systems and Performance, giving students practical experience in analysing vehicle systems, optimising performance, and applying computational and engineering methods to real-world problems. The third year includes a sandwich placement, providing hands-on industry experience, enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge in professional settings, and developing practical skills, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics and independent projects through modules such as Advanced Automotive Engineering, Vehicle Design and Production, Project: Implementation, and Project: Management and Scoping, allowing them to integrate technical knowledge with design, production, and project management skills. Graduates leave the program with a strong foundation in automotive engineering, practical experience, analytical skills, and professional readiness, prepared for careers in vehicle design, development, manufacturing, and research, or for further postgraduate study.
