COURSE CURRICULUM

The BArch (Honours) Architecture program is carefully structured over four years to develop students’ design, technical, and professional skills. In the first year, students focus on foundational design and theoretical knowledge through Environmental Architecture Design Projects 1 and 2, which explore concepts of people, space, place, dwelling, and climate. This is complemented by studies in Histories and Theories of Architecture 1 and an Introduction to Architecture, giving students a strong grounding in architectural principles and context. In the second year, learning shifts toward collaborative and urban design challenges. Students engage in a Collaborative Project and Environmental Architecture Design Projects 3 and 4, which address community-focused and city-scale design, while Histories and Theories of Architecture 2 deepens critical understanding of architectural ideas. The third year provides practical industry experience through an Undergraduate Sandwich Placement and Applied Professional Diploma, allowing students to apply their knowledge in professional settings and gain real-world insights. The final year emphasizes advanced design, environmental considerations, and professional readiness. Environmental Architecture Design Projects 5 and 6 focus on landscape and civic-scale projects, preparing students to tackle complex architectural challenges. Alongside these, Histories and Theories of Architecture 3 and the Professional Practice with Short Placement module consolidate theoretical knowledge and professional skills. All modules are assessed through coursework, ensuring continuous development in design, analysis, and applied architectural practice.
