COURSE CURRICULUM

The BArch (Honours) Architecture course is structured to gradually build students’ design, technical, and theoretical knowledge over three years. In the first year, students focus on foundational skills and concepts through modules such as Environmental Architecture Design Project 1, which explores people, space, and place, and Design Project 2, which examines dwelling and climate. Complementing these practical projects, students study the Histories and Theories of Architecture 1 and an Introduction to Architecture, developing an understanding of architectural context and theory. In the second year, the curriculum expands to collaborative and community-focused work. Students engage in a Collaborative Project, and Environmental Architecture Design Projects 3 and 4 focus on community and urban environments, allowing them to apply design skills to broader social and spatial contexts. Histories and Theories of Architecture 2 continue to build critical awareness of architectural thought. The third year emphasizes advanced design and professional readiness. Environmental Architecture Design Projects 5 and 6 explore landscape and civic-scale projects, enabling students to tackle complex, real-world challenges. Alongside this, Histories and Theories of Architecture 3 deepens theoretical understanding, while the Professional Practice with Short Placement module provides practical experience within architectural practices. Across all years, coursework-based assessments ensure that students consistently develop their design, analytical, and professional skills, preparing them for successful careers in architecture.
