COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Honours) Product Design course offers a comprehensive pathway for students to develop creativity, technical expertise, and strategic thinking in the design of products and services. In the first year, students gain foundational skills and knowledge through modules such as Design Essentials: Skills, Techniques and Principles and Design Interactions: Products, Services and Experiences, learning core design techniques, problem-solving methods, and approaches to user-centred experiences. The second year builds on this foundation with modules including Sustainable Design Practice: Responsible Design, Professional Design Practice: Client Engagement, and Future Now: Collaboration in Action, alongside an optional Study Abroad – Creative Industries module, providing opportunities for international exposure, industry engagement, and collaborative projects. These modules focus on ethical, sustainable, and professional aspects of design, helping students to understand real-world challenges and client requirements. The third year includes a sandwich placement, offering hands-on professional experience and the chance to apply creative and technical skills in industry contexts. In the final year, advanced modules such as Graduating Designer: Launching Your Career and Strategic Innovation: Developing Your Specialism allow students to consolidate their knowledge, refine their design philosophy, and develop a professional portfolio. Graduates leave with the creativity, technical skills, and strategic understanding required for careers in product design, service innovation, design consultancy, or further postgraduate study.
