COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Honours) Politics and International Relations course provides a comprehensive framework for understanding local, national, and global political dynamics while developing the analytical and practical skills required for careers in policy, governance, advocacy, and communication. In the first year, students establish a foundation in political and international studies through modules such as Planetary Politics and International Relations, Post-War British Politics and Foreign Policy, Researching Politics, International Relations and Society, and Social and Political Thought, gaining skills in research, critical analysis, and practical application. The second year deepens understanding of contemporary political and global issues with modules including Europe, The European Union and Applied Advocacy, Globalisation and Militarism, and optional electives such as Applied Politics – Work Project, Divided Societies, and Study Abroad – Social Sciences, offering professional experience and international exposure. The third year includes a sandwich placement, providing practical experience in real-world political, governmental, or international organisations. In the final year, students consolidate their expertise through a dissertation and advanced electives such as Gender, Peace and (In)Security, International Political Economy, Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism, and Understanding Human Rights: Disrupting Universalism, allowing for in-depth research and critical evaluation of complex political phenomena. Graduates emerge with strong analytical, research, and communication skills, equipped for careers in politics, international relations, policy analysis, advocacy, or further postgraduate study.
