COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Honours) Photography course provides a structured and practice-based pathway for students to develop creative, technical, and professional skills in contemporary photographic practice. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of image-making through modules such as Photographic Making: Introduction to Materials, Processes and Presentation and Photographic Practice: Introduction to Professional Contexts and Pathways, gaining essential skills in photography, presentation, and professional awareness. The second year focuses on expanding creative and conceptual practice with modules including Photographic Possibilities: The Expanded Field, Photographic Display: Exhibition, Sites and Audiences, and Future Now: Collaboration in Action, alongside an optional Study Abroad – Creative Industries module, providing international exposure and collaborative experience. The third year offers a sandwich placement, allowing students to apply their skills and gain professional experience in real-world photographic or creative industries contexts. In the final year, advanced modules such as Photographic Realisation: Independent Practice and Photographic Research: Deepening Creative Investigations enable students to consolidate their artistic voice, develop independent projects, and produce a professional portfolio. Throughout the program, students explore a variety of photographic techniques, conceptual approaches, and exhibition strategies while cultivating critical thinking, ethical awareness, and creative innovation. Graduates emerge as skilled, imaginative, and professionally prepared photographers, ready for careers in photography, visual arts, media, or further postgraduate study.
