COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Honours) Journalism, Public Relations with Media course offers a comprehensive program that combines theoretical study with practical, industry-focused experience. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through modules such as Broadcast Journalism, Campaign Management, News Writing, and PR Essentials, gaining a solid grounding in media production, communication strategies, and content creation. The second year builds on these skills with Content Creation, Crisis and Reputation Management, Magazine and Feature Writing, and Media Law, Regulation and Government, while providing opportunities for real-world exposure through an optional Study Abroad – Creative Industries module. Students learn to navigate professional and ethical considerations while producing high-quality, engaging content for diverse audiences. The third year includes a sandwich placement, offering hands-on professional experience that enhances employability and practical understanding of media and public relations practice. In the final year, students consolidate their knowledge and skills through advanced modules such as Approaches to Communication Research, Entrepreneurship and Freelancing, Workplace Practice and Ethics, and a major applied project or dissertation, allowing them to produce a portfolio of professional work. Graduates leave with the ability to critically analyse media environments, craft compelling stories, manage communication campaigns, and operate effectively in journalism, public relations, media production, and related creative industries.
