COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Honours) History course offers a rich and varied exploration of global, social, and cultural histories, encouraging students to think critically about the forces and ideas that have shaped human societies. In the first year, modules such as Common People? Local Voices, Global Histories; Empires: Expansion, Decline, Legacy; Sex, Gender and Sexuality in History; and The Global Age of Revolutions introduce key historical themes, diverse perspectives, and methodological approaches. The second year deepens this understanding through Applied History, which connects academic study with real-world practice, alongside modules like Bodies: Shaping Societies, Moving People: History Across Borders, and Popular Movements and the Fight for Rights, exploring migration, activism, and social change. An optional Study Abroad – Creative Industries module allows students to gain international academic experience. The third year focuses on professional development through a sandwich placement, offering hands-on experience in a historical or cultural setting. In the final year, students engage with advanced topics such as Black History Matters, Defending Democracy, and Sex, War and Liberation, while completing a major independent History Research Project. This structure equips graduates with analytical, research, and communication skills suited for careers in education, heritage, journalism, and other fields that value historical insight and critical thinking.
