COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Geography program is a four-year course designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of human and physical geography while equipping them to address global challenges. In the first year, students explore foundational topics such as Approaches to Human Geography, Climate Change and Sustainability, Planet Earth, and Professional Geographer, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills in research, analysis, and communication. The second year develops applied expertise through Fieldwork and GIS for Global Challenges, Geographical Research and Practice, and Geographies for a Just Future, alongside elective modules such as Contemporary Debates in Human Geography, Environmental Pollution, and study abroad opportunities, allowing students to specialise and gain international experience. The third year includes a sandwich placement, offering real-world professional experience in environmental organisations, planning agencies, or research settings, enabling students to apply their knowledge and develop transferable skills. In the final year, students consolidate learning through a dissertation, employability and communication modules, and a selection of electives covering topics such as Development and the Global South, Geographies of Everyday Life, Glaciology, Living with Hazard and Risk, Nature and Society, and Planning Sustainable Cities. The program emphasises fieldwork, GIS, critical thinking, research skills, and problem-solving, preparing graduates for careers in environmental management, urban planning, policy, international development, conservation, education, or further postgraduate study.
