COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Honours) Fine Art course is structured to help students progressively develop their creative practice, critical thinking, and professional awareness across four years. In the first year, students explore artistic ideas, materials, and processes through the modules Introducing Fine Art: Ideas, Materials and Processes and Developing Fine Art: Progressing Ideas and Expanding Practice, which focus on experimentation and technical skill-building. The second year deepens creative exploration through modules such as Experiments in Fine Art: Curiosity, Testing, Positioning and Contexts for Fine Art: Working with Sites, Communities, Audiences and Participants, encouraging students to engage with different environments and collaborative approaches. The module Future Now: Collaboration in Action develops teamwork and interdisciplinary practice, while an optional Study Abroad – Creative Industries module offers international experience. The third year provides an opportunity for an Undergraduate Sandwich Placement, allowing students to gain professional experience within the creative industries. In the final year, students consolidate their practice through Challenging Fine Art: Deepening Creative and Critical Investigation and Presenting Fine Art: Resolving Ideas and Making Public, which focus on refining their conceptual and practical work for public exhibition. Together, these modules prepare graduates for professional art practice or further study in fine art and related creative fields.
