COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Honours) English program offers a comprehensive and flexible approach to the study of literature and language, combining critical analysis, creative exploration, and real-world experience. In the first year, students engage with foundational modules such as Compass Points North, Local Voices, Global Stories, Reimagining Language and Literature, and Text and Talk, building essential skills in reading, writing, and literary interpretation. The second year deepens understanding through modules including Applied English, Encounters: Readers, Texts, Worlds, Minds in Dialogue, and Questioning Perspectives, encouraging students to explore the relationships between texts, readers, and broader cultural contexts. Elective options and study abroad opportunities allow students to tailor their learning to individual interests and gain international experience. The third year includes a professional sandwich placement, giving students practical experience and enhancing employability in fields such as publishing, media, communications, and education. In the final year, students complete advanced modules and an independent research project through English Research Project, Graduate Portfolio, Language Now, and Literature Now, allowing them to consolidate their learning, demonstrate critical engagement, and pursue personal academic interests. Overall, the program balances theoretical knowledge, practical application, and creative inquiry, preparing graduates for diverse careers or further study while fostering a deep understanding of contemporary literature, language, and culture.
