COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Honours) Creative Writing program is structured over four years to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of storytelling, narrative techniques, and creative expression across multiple genres. In the first year, students build foundational skills through core modules including Becoming a Writer, Creative Sheffield, The Narrative Arc, and Words in the World, developing essential abilities in writing, analysis, and creative exploration. The second year expands on this knowledge with modules such as Experimenting with Short Forms, The Writers' Workshop, Writing Genre, and Writing to Commission, allowing students to refine their craft and explore different writing styles and formats. Elective opportunities, including Study Abroad in Creative Industries, offer international exposure and broaden understanding of global creative practices. The third year focuses on professional development through the Undergraduate Sandwich Placement Applied Professional Diploma, providing real-world experience and the opportunity to apply skills in industry settings. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through modules including Collaboration and Audience, Creative Innovations, Creative Writing Portfolio, and Environmental Writing, enabling them to produce a substantial body of work while engaging with contemporary creative practices. The program equips graduates with practical writing skills, critical and analytical abilities, and professional experience, preparing them for careers in writing, publishing, media, communications, or related creative industries.
