COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Honours) Sports Journalism degree provides students with the skills, knowledge, and practical experience needed to pursue careers in sports media, combining academic study with real-world application. In the first year, students develop foundational skills in sports reporting and media analysis through modules such as Broadcast Journalism, Live Event Reporting, Sport, Media and Society, and Sports Writing, learning essential techniques in writing, production, and audience engagement. The second year builds on these skills with modules including Content Creation, Magazine and Feature Writing, Media Law, Regulation and Government, and Sports Newsday, while optional opportunities such as Study Abroad – Creative Industries provide international exposure and professional experience. In the final year, students consolidate their expertise through Approaches to Communication Research, Sports Journalism Applied Project or Dissertation, Sports News Live, and Working in Sports Media, focusing on advanced reporting, multimedia production, and industry-standard practices. Throughout the program, students refine their writing, investigative, and digital media skills, as well as critical thinking, ethical awareness, and teamwork, preparing them to enter the competitive sports journalism industry or pursue postgraduate study in journalism, media, or communications.
