COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Honours) Professional Policing course provides students with a thorough understanding of policing theory, practice, and ethics, preparing them for careers in law enforcement and related public service sectors. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules such as Operational Policing: Counter Terrorism and Digital Policing, Police Problem-Solving, Professional and Academic Skills in Policing, and The Role of Police Officers, Operational Powers and Legislation, gaining insight into legal frameworks, operational powers, and core policing skills. The second year deepens practical and analytical expertise with Applied Police Problem-Solving, Applying Academic and Professional Standards in Policing, Operational Policing: Core Policing Practice, and Operational Policing: Vulnerability and Risk, integrating practical exercises with academic study to develop problem-solving and decision-making abilities. In the final year, students consolidate their skills through modules such as Applied Investigation and Interviewing Skills, Evidence-Based Policing Project, Large Scale Incidents and Specialist Response, and Personal and Professional Development, emphasizing investigative techniques, operational readiness, and reflective practice. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, professional competence, ethical awareness, and leadership skills, leaving equipped to enter policing, criminal justice, public safety roles, or pursue further postgraduate study in related fields.
