COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Occupational Therapy (Pre-reg) at Royal Holloway provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for professional practice in diverse healthcare settings, both in the UK and internationally. In the first year, students engage with core modules such as Occupational Therapy with a Global Context, Human Sciences and Occupational Performance, and Occupation in Practice, supported by two practice placements that offer hands-on experience in clinical and community environments. These modules develop foundational knowledge, clinical skills, and professional reasoning while emphasizing the global and interdisciplinary dimensions of occupational therapy. In the second year, the program advances students’ expertise through modules like Contemporary Practice in Occupational Therapy, Collaborative Approach in Practice, and a Research Project in Occupational Therapy and Global Health. Additional practice placements allow students to consolidate skills, apply theoretical learning in real-world contexts, and gain experience in both individual and community-focused interventions. Emphasis on global health, sustainability, and disaster management prepares graduates for emerging roles in international health and social prescribing. Through a combination of rigorous academic study, practical experience, and research-focused projects, students develop the ability to support participation, health, and well-being in diverse populations while building professional networks and competencies that enable a successful and adaptable career in occupational therapy.
