COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Information Security program at Royal Holloway provides students with a robust foundation in both the theoretical and practical aspects of securing digital information. The core modules focus on three key areas essential for a successful career in information security. Security Management and Methods introduces students to the principles, frameworks, and best practices required to protect information assets and manage risks in complex organizational environments. It covers topics such as risk assessment, security policies, incident response, and governance, equipping students to handle evolving cyber threats effectively. Cryptography and Security Mechanisms offers in-depth understanding of the technical tools and techniques used to safeguard information, including encryption, authentication, secure protocols, and emerging cryptographic approaches, enabling students to design and implement secure systems. The Project module allows students to apply their acquired knowledge and skills to a substantial, real-world or research-based project, demonstrating their ability to tackle complex problems independently while integrating both management and technical perspectives. Together, these modules provide a balanced combination of theory, technical expertise, and applied experience, preparing graduates to pursue careers as information security specialists, consultants, or researchers.
