COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Theatre Directing program at Royal Holloway equips students with the knowledge, skills, and creative insight to excel as innovative theatre directors. The course blends intensive practical training with critical theoretical study, allowing students to develop a strong foundation in the art and craft of directing. Core modules such as Theatre Directing, Concept and Dramaturgy, and Making Performance guide students through the processes of conceiving, planning, and executing theatrical productions, emphasizing both technical proficiency and creative vision. Contemporary British Theatre provides students with an understanding of current trends, debates, and practices within the UK theatre landscape, enabling them to situate their work within a broader cultural and historical context. The program also includes a Theatre Directing Dissertation, encouraging students to undertake independent research that deepens their understanding of theory, practice, and innovation in directing. Academic Integrity forms an integral part of the curriculum, ensuring that students engage ethically and responsibly with research and creative work.
