COURSE CURRICULUM

The core modules of the MA in Producing Film and Television at Royal Holloway provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the producer’s role and the practical, creative, and strategic skills required in the modern media industry. Students begin by exploring the fundamental responsibilities of a producer, including project conception, script development, and collaboration with writers and directors. Producing Workshop modules offer hands-on experience in managing production processes, while International Media Business focuses on understanding global industry structures, financing, and cross-border production strategies. Production Management develops organisational and leadership skills necessary to oversee complex projects, while Marketing and Media Law equips students with knowledge of audience engagement, promotional strategies, and the legal frameworks that govern media production. Throughout the course, students apply these skills in either a Masters’ Project or an Independent Media Project and Essay, allowing them to undertake a substantial, practice-based piece of work that demonstrates their creative and professional capabilities. Academic Integrity modules support students in developing research skills, ethical practice, and professional standards expected within the industry. Together, these modules ensure that graduates leave the program with a balanced combination of practical experience, critical understanding, and industry insight, ready to contribute as innovative and adaptable producers in the rapidly evolving global film and television sector.
