COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Creative Writing at Royal Holloway provides students with a structured yet flexible framework to develop their writing to an advanced level while engaging critically with literary culture. The core modules focus on building strong foundational skills, including Supplementary Discourses, Reading as a Writer, Creative Writing Project, and the Extended Essay, which allow students to explore both creative practice and scholarly research in literature. Academic Integrity is embedded throughout the program, ensuring students develop rigorous research and ethical writing practices. In addition to the core curriculum, students select from specialized pathways such as Fiction Workshop, Poetry Workshop, Poetic Practice, or New Prose Narratives Workshop, enabling them to tailor their learning to their individual creative interests. Through workshops, seminars, and personalized mentoring, students receive detailed feedback on their work, enhancing their technical skills, narrative techniques, and stylistic development. The course emphasizes both the practical and theoretical aspects of writing, encouraging students to critically evaluate their own work and that of others.
