COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Geography program at Royal Holloway offers a comprehensive study of both physical and human geography, providing students with the knowledge and skills to understand the complex interactions between people and their environment. In the first year, students explore foundational concepts, including physical geography, biogeography, ecology, and human geography, while also developing practical skills through modules on geographical techniques, remote sensing, GIS, and field research training. This early combination of theory and practice equips students with a solid understanding of environmental processes, societal development, and the spatial dimensions of human activity. In the second year, students build on these skills through advanced geographical techniques and field training, gaining hands-on experience in research methods, data collection, and spatial analysis. The program culminates in the third year with the opportunity to undertake a dissertation or an independent placement-linked dissertation, allowing students to pursue an area of personal interest in depth and apply their learning to real-world contexts. Throughout the course, students develop critical thinking, analytical abilities, and practical fieldwork experience, preparing them for careers in environmental management, urban planning, policy analysis, international development, and further academic study, while benefiting from strong research-led teaching and extensive support within the department.
