COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Earth, Climate and Environmental Change program offers an in-depth exploration of the scientific principles and processes that shape our planet, equipping students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to address pressing environmental challenges. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in Earth system science through modules such as Evolving Earth, Human Interaction with the Earth, Climate, Ocean and Atmosphere, Physics and Chemistry of the Earth, and the Earth Scientists Toolkit. These courses introduce fundamental concepts and provide hands-on experience in scientific techniques and analysis. In the second year, students deepen their understanding through specialised modules including Research in Earth, Climate and Environmental Change, Geohazards, Geochemistry, and advanced toolkits for environmental and digital data analysis. This stage emphasises research methods, applied problem-solving, and field-based learning. The third year focuses on advanced study and independent research, with modules such as Earth, Climate and Environmental Change Research Project, Advanced Practical Meteorology, Modern Climate Change, Advanced Palaeoclimate, Advanced Geohazards, and the Earth Scientists Independent Project. By combining rigorous theoretical study with extensive practical and research experience, the program develops critical thinking, analytical, and field research skills, preparing graduates for careers in environmental consultancy, climate research, policy, and sustainability-focused roles, while addressing global environmental and climate challenges.
