COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Politics and International Relations at Royal Holloway is designed to provide students with a thorough grounding in both political theory and global affairs. In the first year, students study the fundamentals of politics and government alongside an introduction to international relations, gaining insights into the key ideas, institutions, and processes that shape political systems. Core modules also include classic and contemporary readings in politics and international relations, as well as research methods, techniques, and analysis, equipping students with the critical skills needed to examine political issues and conduct rigorous research. In the second year, the focus expands to international relations theory, enabling students to explore complex global interactions, state behaviour, and the theoretical frameworks that underpin international politics. The program culminates in the third year with a dissertation in politics, international relations, or a combination of both, allowing students to undertake independent research on a topic of their choice, applying the analytical, methodological, and critical skills developed throughout the course. This structure ensures that graduates leave with a deep understanding of domestic and international political systems, the ability to interpret global events, and the skills to engage with contemporary challenges. The degree prepares students for careers in diplomacy, government, international organisations, policy analysis, research, and other roles requiring nuanced insight into political and global affairs.
