COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Liberal Arts program at Royal Holloway offers a structured yet flexible approach to interdisciplinary learning, enabling students to explore a broad range of subjects while developing critical thinking and analytical skills. In the first year, students engage with the module Critical and Cultural Encounters, which introduces them to foundational concepts in culture, society, and interdisciplinary analysis, fostering an awareness of how different disciplines intersect and inform one another. Building on this foundation, the second-year module Power, Society and Cultural Practice encourages students to examine complex social, political, and cultural dynamics, developing the ability to critically analyse relationships between power structures, societal norms, and cultural practices. In the final year, students undertake the Individual Interdisciplinary Project, a capstone experience that allows them to design and execute an in-depth, self-directed study that integrates multiple disciplines and demonstrates their ability to synthesise knowledge, conduct independent research, and produce original work. Throughout the program, students cultivate transferable skills in communication, research, problem-solving, and cultural literacy, preparing them for a wide range of careers or further academic study. The combination of guided modules and independent research ensures graduates are equipped to think creatively, act critically, and contribute effectively in professional and academic environments, making the Liberal Arts degree a highly versatile and valuable qualification.
