COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Digital Media Culture and Technology at Royal Holloway offers a comprehensive blend of creative, technical, and theoretical training across three years. In the first year, students build foundational skills through modules in coding for the arts, digital media theory and practice, and media histories, establishing both practical abilities and critical understanding of the digital media landscape. The second year expands these skills with a focus on digital media communications, aesthetics, and data journalism and visualisation, while allowing students to specialise in areas such as creative interactive media, digital arts, animation and visual effects, or creative social media. This combination of practical, creative, and analytical learning encourages students to explore multiple facets of digital media while developing their individual interests and strengths. In the third year, students consolidate their expertise through modules on creativity, entrepreneurship, and digital marketing, alongside an advanced digital media communications project and a media arts dissertation, providing opportunities to apply knowledge to real-world contexts and produce professional-level work. The program emphasises project-based learning, interdisciplinary thinking, and professional development, equipping graduates with the skills to thrive in the dynamic digital media sector.
