COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Global Art Markets is a specialised program designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the international art industry, blending academic study with practical experience. In Term 1, students build a strong foundation through modules in Art Business, Professional Perspectives and an introduction to Object Identification covering antiquities through to the 20th century. This equips them with key analytical and practical skills to navigate the business of art. Term 2 advances these skills further with a focus on Contemporary Art and Collectables, supported by study trips that provide first-hand exposure to global art hubs, fairs, galleries and museums. Students also examine the processes, dynamics and legal frameworks of art markets and transactions, gaining a critical understanding of how artworks are valued, traded and managed. In Term 3, the program integrates professional practice with a placement opportunity, giving students the chance to apply their knowledge in real-world settings while building valuable networks within the industry. The course culminates in Term 4 with the Final Major Project, where students undertake an independent, in-depth research or practice-based project that reflects their interests and career ambitions. Together, these experiences prepare graduates to thrive in diverse roles across the global art market.
