ABOUT UNIVERSITY

Regent's University London is a private university located in Regent's Park, Central London, England. Established in 1984 as Regent's College by Rockford College in Illinois, it is now part of Galileo Global Education, Europe’s largest higher education provider. The university occupies the former South Villa Estate, which was previously used by Bedford College, part of the University of London. Bedford College leased the site in 1908 and constructed buildings designed by architect Basil Champneys, which were opened by Queen Mary in 1913. These buildings were later modified, particularly after sustaining damage during the Second World War. In 1985, Bedford College merged with Royal Holloway and relocated, leaving the Regent's Park premises vacant. Regent's College expanded gradually, with the European Business School London joining the campus in 1987.In 2012, Regent’s College was granted taught degree-awarding powers, and in 2013 it officially became Regent’s University London. That same year, it acquired American InterContinental University London, strengthening its academic portfolio. In 2016, the university’s research degrees (MPhil and PhD) began to be validated by the University of Northampton, following the University of Wales’ decision to withdraw from external validation. Regent’s was awarded a Silver rating in the UK’s Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) in 2021. Its degree-awarding powers, initially granted for a fixed term, were renewed in 2018 and made permanent in 2024.In September 2020, Regent’s University London joined Galileo Global Education’s network, which includes over 80 campuses and 42 institutions across 13 countries, such as the Paris School of Business, Macromedia University in Germany, Instituto de Estudios Universitarios in Mexico, and Istituto Marangoni in Italy and the UK. Today, Regent’s remains one of only six private universities in the UK, known for its central London location and international academic collaborations.
