ABOUT UNIVERSITY

Regent’s University London, originally established as Regent’s College in 1984, is a private university located in Regent’s Park, Central London. It is part of Galileo Global Education, a Paris-based network recognized as Europe’s largest for-profit higher education provider. The university’s origins date back to when Rockford College of Illinois acquired the former South Villa Estate campus of the University of London’s Bedford College. The site, leased by Bedford College in 1908, featured buildings designed by architect Basil Champneys and inaugurated by Queen Mary in 1913. After suffering bomb damage during the Second World War and subsequent repairs, the site was vacated in 1985 when Bedford College merged with Royal Holloway College and moved to Surrey. Regent’s College then expanded its programs, welcoming the European Business School London in 1987. In 2012, the institution was granted taught degree-awarding powers, and in 2013, it officially became Regent’s University London, one of only six private universities in the UK. The university further strengthened its academic portfolio by acquiring the American InterContinental University London in 2013. Initially, research degrees were validated by the University of Wales, later transferred to the University of Northampton in 2016 after the former’s merger into the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. Regent’s was awarded a silver rating in the 2021 Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), reflecting its commitment to quality education. Its degree-awarding powers, renewed in 2018 for six years, were made permanent in 2024, marking a major milestone in its academic autonomy. In 2020, the university became part of Galileo Global Education’s network, connecting it to over 80 campuses and 42 institutions across 13 countries, including renowned schools like the Paris School of Business, Macromedia University in Germany, and Istituto Marangoni in the UK and Italy.
