This broadcasting degree offers a comprehensive, technically focused pathway into the world of modern broadcast engineering and production. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of the broadcasting industry, gaining a foundational understanding of electronics and engineering principles, while developing core production skills through collaboration with TV production students. Mathematics is revisited and extended to ensure students are prepared for the technical challenges ahead. Modules such as Production Skills and Technologies, Moving Image Industries, and Storytelling on Screen help build a solid base of both practical and theoretical knowledge.In the second year, students begin to apply their skills to more complex projects, experimenting with creative solutions in broadcast environments. They delve into colour science, live event broadcasting, virtual production, and computing for broadcasting. The integration of electronics and sound fundamentals further deepens their technical expertise. Work-based learning opportunities begin at this stage, helping students engage with industry practices and gain valuable experience in real-world scenarios.By the final year, students are equipped to undertake a self-directed dissertation and a major engineering project that reflects their interests and ambitions. This could involve the creation of broadcast equipment prototypes or software solutions. Alongside this, students study emerging broadcast technologies and standards to future-proof their knowledge. The program concludes with a focus on professional practice and performance, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for technical roles in broadcast production, engineering, or related media industries.
