COURSE CURRICULUM

The three-year broadcast journalism course offers a comprehensive progression through core journalistic and production skills, real-world newsroom experience, and adaptation to evolving media technologies. In the first year, students focus on building foundational skills across five core modules. These include production skills and technologies, storytelling for news, podcasting and outside broadcasting, and two Professional Life and Practice modules. These components provide an essential grounding in both technical and editorial elements of broadcast journalism, setting the stage for more advanced study.In the second year, students deepen their understanding of journalism’s core principles while actively engaging in newsroom environments. Modules such as Ethics and Law and Politics and Public Administration provide context and legal frameworks essential for accurate, responsible journalism. Students also explore Virtual Production and further develop their technical and editorial expertise through Live Studio and Outside Broadcasting. A key element of this year is the inclusion of a work placement or live project, giving students valuable hands-on experience and industry insight. This is supported by continued development through Professional Life and Practice 3.By the third year, students are equipped to work more independently and creatively. They undertake a Final Major Project that showcases their journalistic capabilities, supported by modules like Impact Journalism and Emerging Technologies. These final modules help students to engage with the latest innovations in the field and consider journalism’s influence in a fast-changing media landscape. The final Professional Life and Practice module helps students consolidate their industry profile, focusing on employability and professional development. Overall, the course is structured to produce graduates who are technically skilled, ethically aware, and fully prepared for a career in broadcast journalism across various modern platforms.
