COURSE CURRICULUM

Across the three years of study, the BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Reuse degree gradually builds students’ skills, knowledge and professional confidence. In Year 1, students develop core abilities in communication, visual representation, construction and environmental considerations, while beginning to explore design thinking and personal creative viewpoints. They are encouraged to engage with contextual studies and research, supported by modules such as Structure, Introduction to Construction, Environment and Services, Architectural Theory and History, and Professional and Business Practice. Year 2 deepens understanding of urban design, commercial and retail environments, and sustainable reuse through collaborative project briefs. Students explore concepts of rehabilitation, urban history, and market factors influencing modern commercial spaces. Modules include Urban Intervention, the New Commercial Paradigm, Sustainable Design and Urbanism. In the final year, learning culminates in an individually negotiated major project and a live brief that demonstrate design resolution and independent decision-making. Students also complete a substantial dissertation showing their research and theoretical understanding, and prepare a professional portfolio that reflects their abilities suitable for entry-level practice. Modules such as Negotiated Brief, Major Project, Dissertation and Preparing for Professional Practice support students in developing industry-ready capabilities.
