COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Graphic Design course is structured to support creative development across three progressive years. In Year 1, students explore the foundations of graphic design by focusing on key ideas, tools, and approaches central to the discipline. The year introduces digital skills, collaboration, user and audience engagement, and how design intersects with culture and technology. There is also a strong emphasis on playful experimentation and the changing nature of workspaces. From the outset, students are treated as design professionals, building a strong sense of identity and practice. Core modules include Fundamentals of Graphic Design 1 and 2, Message 1 and 2, and two Professional Life Practice modules focused on developing and exploring one’s practice.In Year 2, the course expands students’ perspectives on the design industry, helping them to deepen their specialisms and clarify their ambitions. This stage encourages collaboration through live briefs, partnerships, and interdisciplinary electives. Students also gain hands-on industry experience through work-based learning, while continuing to develop their personal and professional growth. Modules include Collaborate, Specialism, Elective, and two Professional Life Practice components focused on applying design practice in real-world settings.Year 3 brings together all aspects of the course, allowing students to refine their creative voice and prepare for entry into the design industry. This final stage focuses on professional readiness, identity, and presentation. Students will create a final portfolio, participate in a future-facing showcase, and define their individual design direction. The curriculum culminates in the Major Project, supported by modules such as Design Voice, Professional Life Practice: Situating Your Practice, and Showtime, ensuring graduates leave with a strong, industry-ready portfolio and a clear understanding of their professional trajectory.
