COURSE CURRICULUM

This three-year film editing degree provides students with a comprehensive and practical education in post-production, focusing on developing both technical expertise and creative storytelling skills. In the first year, students begin to build foundational knowledge in post-production, broadcast technology, communication, and visualisation. Modules such as First Post, Motion and Effects, Craft Editing, and Post Technology introduce key concepts, tools, and processes in editing, while Professional Life Practice modules explore the moving image industry and storytelling techniques. This year also encourages students to begin developing ideas for their contextual studies research.In the second year, the course deepens its focus on the craft of editing and technical workflows. Students refine their editing skills through modules like Cut Drama and Cut Documentary, gaining hands-on experience with different genres and formats. They also study online editing processes and explore entrepreneurial skills through live briefs and collaborative projects. A strong emphasis is placed on work-based learning, offering valuable exposure to real-world post-production environments and the opportunity to build a professional network. Elective modules allow for further specialisation aligned with individual interests.In the final year, students concentrate on developing high-end professional skills and assembling a strong portfolio through their Final Major Project. Modules such as Online, Portfolio, and Showtime help students create industry-ready work that reflects their unique voice and capabilities. The Professional Life Practice: Passion Project module supports a self-directed, creative endeavour, while the long-form dissertation demonstrates their critical understanding of the field. By the end of the course, students are well-prepared for careers in post-production, equipped with technical proficiency, creative insight, professional experience, and a polished portfolio that showcases their readiness for the fast-paced film and media industries.
