COURSE CURRICULUM

This digital photography course provides students with a comprehensive foundation in technical skills, creative expression, and industry insight. In the first year, students are introduced to the essentials of photographic equipment, including still and motion image-making, as well as post-production software. The curriculum helps them build confidence in their practice, explore industry workflows, and begin to understand how their creative output aligns with various platforms and audiences. Modules cover the beginning of craft, industry awareness, and specialist workflows, while also encouraging personal and professional development.In the second year, students expand their technical capabilities by working with high-end professional equipment, such as Leica M, Phase One, Hasselblad, and Linhof medium format cameras. This stage of the course focuses on exploring specialist photography areas and applying skills to real-world contexts. Students develop their personal style through live briefs and work-based learning, deepening their understanding of narrative, sequencing, and portfolio development. These experiences prepare them to operate with greater independence and creativity.By the third year, students consolidate their learning through a major photography project designed for exhibition at the degree show. Many will already be involved in professional work, gaining publication credits and industry recognition. They are expected to produce a self-directed, experimental brief that reflects their creative identity and future career goals. A long-form dissertation supports their practical work with contextual research and critical thinking. Final modules include client work, personal portfolio development, and a professional review to refine their industry readiness. The course equips students with a strong technical foundation, a compelling creative vision, and the professional experience needed to thrive in the global photography and wider creative industries.
