The BA in Animation offers a structured three-year journey designed to develop both creative and technical skills, preparing students for a professional career in animation. In the first year, students focus on building fundamental animation skills such as timing, posing, movement, and behaviour using industry-standard software. The curriculum encourages experimentation, improvisation, and personal responsibility, supported by insights from guest speakers and live practitioner-set tasks. This hands-on, practical approach is reinforced through modules like Introduction to Visual Culture, Mark-Making in Motion, and Expressive Motion, alongside Professional Life Practice modules that lay the groundwork for industry awareness and personal development.In the second year, students deepen their animation abilities through focused study in areas like character performance and visual development, including character design. Modules are designed to challenge storytelling and narrative techniques, helping students refine their creative voice in preparation for the demands of the industry. Live projects and mentorship offer real-world experience, while masterclasses and workshops led by industry professionals enhance practical knowledge. The year concludes with a compulsory work-based learning module, providing invaluable industry exposure.By the third year, the focus shifts toward professional readiness and portfolio development. Students tailor their work to their chosen specialism, ensuring their portfolio reflects individual strengths and aligns with their intended sector. Cross-disciplinary collaboration with students from related fields such as 3D Animation, Games, and Music and Sound Design fosters a broader understanding of creative industries. Modules in Animation Industry Prep, Production, and Portfolio support students in developing a personal brand, while an integrated mix of theory and practice enhances both artistic and strategic thinking.
