COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) 3D Animation course offers a structured three-year journey, guiding students from fundamental skills to industry readiness. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in animation by learning essential techniques such as timing, posing, movement, and character behaviour. The curriculum encourages experimentation and improvisation, helping students to develop their creative thinking. Modules include Animation Fundamentals, Character Mechanics, Look Development, and Pre-Visualisation, along with Professional Life Practice components that support personal and artistic growth. Students gain early exposure to the industry through guest lectures, professional feedback, and practitioner-led tasks. Alongside 3D animation, they explore visual language, storytelling, and drawing to enhance their creative toolkit.In the second year, students advance into more complex areas, including acting for animation, emotional expression, dialogue, and rigging. They also begin identifying their individual strengths and interests within the field. Key modules such as Animation Character Performance, Modelling and Rigging, and Industry Exercises are complemented by live projects and the opportunity to undertake work-based learning. Industry professionals continue to engage students through workshops and masterclasses, offering real-world insights and mentorship.By the third year, students refine their chosen specialism while preparing for professional careers. Focus areas include personal branding, freelancing, and showreel development tailored to specific sectors. Collaborative opportunities with students from related disciplines, such as Games Design and Music and Sound Design, foster interdisciplinary practice. Final modules such as Animation Industry Prep, Animation Production, and Animation Portfolio help students consolidate their skills into a strong professional identity. Throughout the degree, there is an emphasis on integrating theory with practice and developing life skills necessary for adapting to the dynamic demands of the animation industry. The course aims to produce confident, skilled graduates ready to enter the world of 3D animation with a distinct creative voice.
