COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) at Queen Margaret University is a specialised postgraduate programme that prepares students to become leaders, advocates, and policy professionals in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights. The course combines global health theory with practical, non-clinical skills and focuses on addressing health inequalities, gender issues, and social justice in both high-income and low- and middle-income countries. The programme begins with pathway-specific modules in Gender and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Gender and Sexual Health Rights in Action, where students critically examine topics such as feminism, masculinities, intersectionality, gender as a social determinant of health, and contemporary issues in sexual and reproductive health. Through practice-based learning, students develop the ability to analyse and respond to complex policy and programming challenges while exploring community, local, and global initiatives that promote sexual health and rights. Additional modules include Key Concepts in Health and Development, Key Methods in Health and Development, Key Practice in Health and Development, Health Systems and Policy, Community-Based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support, Project Design and Management, Introduction to Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, and Applied Approaches to Climate and Health. The MSc concludes with a 60-credit dissertation involving desk-based research or fieldwork on an approved topic related to sexual and reproductive health and rights. The programme emphasises equity, human rights, community-based approaches, and evidence-informed policy and practice. Graduates develop advanced analytical, research, leadership, and programme management skills that prepare them for senior positions in public health organisations, government agencies, international development organisations, non-governmental organisations, humanitarian agencies, advocacy groups, and global health programmes focused on improving sexual and reproductive health and protecting reproductive rights worldwide.
