COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Theatre and Film programme is a unique interdisciplinary degree in Scotland that combines both theory and practice to prepare students for careers in the creative industries. It is designed for those passionate about theatre and film, offering an integrated approach that reflects the increasingly connected nature of these fields in today’s professional landscape. The course develops students’ creative, technical, and analytical skills, enabling them to work confidently across theatre, film, and related industries such as teaching and media communication. Emphasis is placed on building adaptability and creative confidence, ensuring graduates are prepared for flexible and evolving career paths in the arts and cultural sectors. Students benefit from excellent on-campus facilities, including performance spaces, rehearsal studios, a film editing suite, and a television studio, as well as access to the QMU Startup Studio, which supports emerging theatre and film production ventures. The programme is strongly industry-focused, taught by experienced practitioners and academics who bring professional insight and current industry practice into the classroom. Students also benefit from studying in Edinburgh, a globally recognised cultural hub and Festival City, home to major events such as the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Edinburgh International Film Festival, providing extensive opportunities for inspiration, networking, and career development. Practical experience is central to the course, with opportunities to create, develop, and showcase creative work, including end-of-year screenings where selected films are presented on the big screen.
