COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Dietetics (Pre-Registration) program is structured across two years, combining scientific knowledge, clinical practice, and research training to prepare students for professional dietetic practice. In Year 1, students study core modules such as Fundamentals of Human Nutrition, which covers nutritional biochemistry, metabolism, energy systems, and nutrient requirements. Research Methods develops skills in literature searching, experimental design, data analysis, and presentation. Dietetics Professional Practice introduces the structure of UK health and care services and the role of dietitians within multidisciplinary teams, alongside safe food provision and professional communication. Health Promotion and Professional Practice across the Lifespan explores behaviour change, health psychology, and nutrition across different life stages, while Applied Public Health Nutrition focuses on global nutrition challenges, including obesity prevention and micronutrient deficiencies. Human Physiology and Disease builds understanding of body systems, disease processes, and the role of medications in treatment and diagnosis. Practice Placement A introduces patient-centred care in real healthcare settings. In Year 2, Dietetic Therapy develops advanced knowledge of managing complex diseases across multiple body systems, including cancer and critical care. Practice Placements B and C strengthen clinical reasoning, communication, professionalism, and decision-making in real-world environments. The Research Project enables independent investigation using qualitative or quantitative methods, encouraging critical analysis and evidence-based practice in dietetics and related fields.
