COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Construction Project Management program at Oxford Brookes University develops advanced management, leadership, and technical skills required for successful careers in the construction and built environment industries. The course explores how organisational behaviour, leadership, communication, teamwork, and conflict resolution influence project performance, using problem-based learning activities, case studies, and practical exercises. Students gain expertise in project planning, scheduling, monitoring, risk management, cash flow analysis, and the use of software-based decision-making tools commonly used in the construction industry. The Process Management module focuses on procurement, supply chain integration, contract management, health and safety, environmental management, quality control, and lean construction approaches that improve project delivery and team performance. Students also study Advanced Technology and BIM, examining innovative construction technologies such as sustainable construction, off-site construction, smart technologies, and Building Information Modelling, which are transforming the modern construction sector. Research skills are strengthened through the Applied Research Methods module, where students learn qualitative and quantitative research techniques and data analysis methods. The program includes four intensive study periods featuring workshops, site visits, guest lectures, and networking opportunities with industry professionals. The course concludes with a Dissertation, where students complete an original research project under academic supervision, developing professional research, analytical, and communication skills relevant to complex construction management challenges.
