COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Computer Subjects provides a structured pathway into computing, data science, and software development through a combination of technical training, research methods, and applied project work. Students begin with Research Methods, which builds academic, analytical, and professional skills needed for lifelong learning and industry practice. Programming and Software Tools introduces Python and core programming principles, focusing on problem-solving and foundational coding skills for data-driven tasks. Principles of Data Science develops the ability to work with large datasets, using modern tools and libraries to analyse and visualise real-world information. The Group Software Project module emphasises collaborative development, covering project management, requirements engineering, risk assessment, usability, and software quality. Principles of Cyber Security explores how systems are protected, addressing both technical defences and human factors in cybersecurity. Web Application Development teaches students to design, build, and secure interactive websites using current development practices. In the final stage, students complete an MSc Dissertation in a computer-related subject, undertaking an independent research or development project under supervision, often in collaboration with industry or research organisations. This program equips graduates with practical programming skills, data science capabilities, and a strong understanding of cybersecurity and software engineering, preparing them for professional roles in the computing industry or further research.
