COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Applied Sport and Exercise Nutrition combines scientific knowledge with practical experience to prepare students for careers in sport, health, and performance nutrition. The course develops a strong understanding of human nutrition, exercise physiology, metabolism, and the relationship between diet, physical activity, and health outcomes. Students learn how to design and evaluate nutrition strategies for athletes and active individuals, considering factors such as energy intake, hydration, recovery, performance enhancement, and the use of ergogenic aids. Practical application is central to the program, with opportunities to work in laboratory settings using advanced techniques such as calorimetry, densitometry, haematology, and urine analysis while interpreting and presenting real performance data. The course also develops professional communication, ethical awareness, and the ability to work with diverse populations including young athletes, older adults, individuals with clinical conditions, and participants from different cultural backgrounds. Research training is provided through modules covering literature review, experimental design, data analysis, and scientific reporting. Students also complete an intensive independent research project on a specialist topic in sport and exercise nutrition under academic supervision.
