COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Applied Human Nutrition provides a strong foundation in nutrition science, public health, food science, and research, preparing students for careers in healthcare, nutrition practice, research, and health promotion. The course develops knowledge of nutrients, dietary requirements, and nutritional assessment across the human lifespan while examining how diet and lifestyle influence body composition and health outcomes. Students explore food science topics including food safety, food quality, sensory analysis, food production, preservation, and functional foods. The program also focuses on the relationship between nutrition, physical activity, and major health conditions such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer, alongside practical approaches to counselling and behaviour change. Global nutrition challenges are examined with emphasis on public health, low-income countries, maternal and child nutrition, and strategies for disease prevention and health improvement. Students gain essential research skills through training in literature review, experimental design, data analysis, and scientific presentation. Professional practice and ethical standards are also embedded throughout the course to support development as qualified nutrition professionals. The program concludes with an independent research project where students investigate a specialised nutrition topic under academic supervision, allowing them to apply practical and analytical skills to real-world nutrition issues and contribute to evidence-based understanding in the field of human nutrition.
