COURSE CURRICULUM

The MPH in Public Health develops advanced knowledge and practical skills for improving health outcomes at population level through policy, research, and health promotion. Core study begins with Public Health Policy, which examines how evidence, ideology, and governance shape health policy decisions and their impact on communities. Advanced Health Promotion focuses on designing and evaluating interventions that support healthier behaviours, combining behavioural theory with community needs assessment and practical planning. Applied Research Methods equips students with the ability to locate, critically appraise, and apply research, as well as design and justify small-scale research projects relevant to health and social care practice. Optional modules allow further specialisation, including Communicable Diseases and Public Health, which explores infection control, epidemiology, vaccination, and outbreak management, and Leadership in Health and Social Care, which develops leadership skills across healthcare systems and organisations. The program concludes with a Dissertation, where students complete an independent research or literature-based project that integrates their learning across the course. This work requires clear definition of a research problem, application of appropriate methodology, and critical analysis of findings in relation to policy and practice. Overall, the course prepares graduates to work in public health roles by combining theory, evidence-based research, and practical skills to address complex health challenges at local, national, and global levels.
